Coronavirus symptoms: Studies reveal one thing to help prevent infection - ‘Top of list’

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has killed at least 1,775 people since December last year, according to Chinese authorities. The deadly virus, which is closely related to SARS, has proven incredibly infectious inside of China .

But the disease has also spread to nearly 30 countries worldwide as well as infecting some 454 people on the Diamond Princess cruise ship near Tokyo.

The virus can jump from human to human even if no outward signs of infection are present.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates the new coronavirus strain incubates for two to 14 days before symptoms appear.

The first stages of infection include symptoms such as flu-like fever, dry cough and breathing difficulty, but can deteriorate into pneumonia and kidney failure.
