Kioxia (formerly Toshiba Memory) is looking to grow its presence in the market for consumer SSDs through launching a new brand, according to industry sources.

The new brand will be built following Kioxia’s integration of SSD business assets internally, including OCZ Storage Solutions it acquired in 2013, said the sources.

Kioxia also plans to combine the SSD business assets it is set to acquire from Lite-On Technology with its existing assets, the sources noted. Kioxia is scheduled to complete its takeover of Lite-On’s SSD business, valued at US$165 million, by April 2020.

Kioxia already supplies NAND flash chips for SSDs rolled out by Lite-On, and its takeover of Lite-On’s SSD unit will make a further positive contribution to Kioxia’s SSD business competitiveness, market observers believe.

In addition, acquiring Lite-On’s SSD unit may include the transfer of Lite-On’s Plextor SSD lineup to Kioxia, which will also be integrated into Kioxia’s brand-new consumer SSD division, the observer said.
