Videos of Southfield high school fights go viral

The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about fight club. But teenagers don’t believe life is actually happening unless it’s being captured on video and shared with the world. So now life is getting more complicated for students at one Southfield high school.

Phone videos of fights between students at Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology are circulating at the school and have broken through to local news media, sparking the usual adult concern.

“Make it make sense to me,” one parent asked WDIV reporter Jason Colthorp.

The fights, some of which broke out simultaneously, occurred at multiple times on the same day:

The same school faced the same controversy just a couple years ago. Parents are now voicing concern that excessive fighting coupled with a lack of security could lead to something worse. One student was caught up in a fight while sitting at her desk – the teacher didn’t step in to help.

The nature of the videos – at least one of which was rolling before the assault began – suggest students know when one is about to happen. Which further suggests it’s an internet thing. Which even further suggests it doesn’t begin to make sense, but may run its course.
